Every profession can make gold — the question is how much, how fast, and how much of your life it eats. This board ranks all eleven primary professions on gold-making value in Midnight Season 1: raw gold per hour, demand for your crafts in the current raid and Mythic+ meta, how well your concentration converts into profit each day, the knowledge-point barrier before you see your first real return, and whether the income is passive (post and log off) or active (farm routes, camp orders, babysit the market).
The top end splits into two ways of getting rich. Herbalism is the AFK-friendly gold-per-hour king — fly the Quel'Thalas routes, fill your bags, and clear 150-250k an hour with zero setup, a shallow knowledge tree (rush Botany for mounted gathering) and zero market risk. On the crafting side, Jewelcrafting is the profession that actually prints: socket-stacked rings and necks that start the season BiS plus a gem cycle every lockout mean raiders and M+ pushers pay you every single week, with Alchemy right beside it as the most reliable passive earner in the game — flask and phial demand resets every Tuesday whether the market likes it or not. Inscription rounds out the top on sheer breadth: Vantus runes, missives, crafting orders and the new housing decor market all in one profession.
The bottom end is where the knowledge-point money pits live. Blacksmithing asks for one of the most expensive specialization trees in the game and pays you back with front-loaded gear demand that collapses a few weeks into the season — the classic trap of sinking a million gold into recipes for a market that no longer exists. Leatherworking has the same problem with an even thinner customer base, and Engineering remains a gadget hobby that pays in utility more than gold. Meanwhile the gathering middle class (Mining, Skinning) keeps earning quietly all season, and Enchanting and Tailoring hold steady on disenchant shuffles, bags and cloth cooldowns.
Here's the thing no spreadsheet settles: auction house trackers show you prices, not profit. What a flask sells for tells you nothing about what it cost to make, how contested the market is, or how many hours of posting and reposting that 'passive' income really takes — that judgment is exactly what the votes here capture. If you're printing millions with a profession sitting in C, the vote buttons are how you prove everyone wrong.
