As of Sep 3, 2026 (Patch 16.2.10604 · live build 16.3.11308 · Season Fourteen), Knights Templar, Order of the Dragon, Macedonian Dynasty, Golden Horde hold the S tier in Age of Empires IV Civilization Tier List — an expert-seeded baseline with no player votes yet. Every vote re-ranks the board live.
Every Age of Empires IV civilization ranked for ranked 1v1 as of the June 1 balance pass, Patch 16.2.10604 - all 23 civs, from the dominant S-tier picks down to the ones losing more than they win. Seed placements come from AoE4 World's ladder statistics for the current stats window (1,196,135 solo ranked games across builds 16.2.10604 to 16.3.11308), read as win rate first with pick rate as a tiebreaker, then corrected by community votes. Civilization balance has not moved since that June 1 pass: the three builds since - 16.2.10884, 16.3.11214 and 16.3.11308 - shipped only bugfixes and the automatic monthly map-pool rotation, which is why the label names 10604 as the anchor while disclosing the build you are actually running. That June 1 pass still shows in the data: Jin Dynasty's Feudal horse-spawn buff has it comfortably in A, while the nerfs to Golden Horde, Knights Templar and Order of the Dragon have not dislodged any of the three from S. Note the two most-played civs in the game - English (12.8% pick) and French (12.4%) - are popular rather than strong, and English in particular wins under 48% of its games. Scope and method: these are all-Elo ladder win rates for ranked 1v1 only. Team games rank differently - Abbasid Dynasty is mid-table in 1v1 but second-best in 4v4, and Zhu Xi's Legacy inverts the other way, dropping to 17th. Civ strength is also strongly map-dependent, and since July 2 the ranked map pool rotates automatically at the start of every month, so the top of this board can move without a balance patch. At tournament level the strongest civs are often banned rather than played. Season Fourteen opened on September 1, 2026 — the ladder reset, but no balance patch shipped with it, so the seed placements above still read from the Season Thirteen stats window until the new season has enough games to stand on its own.
