The meta is days old and genuinely unsettled, so read these ranks as a live community take rather than a settled chart. The July 24-26 open beta ran with only part of the cast — Loki, Deadpool, Carnage and Hulk were not playable at all — which means the characters with the most public data and the characters people most want ranked are not the same set. The order here follows the players who actually put time into the beta and the first post-launch lists, rather than pre-release theorycraft, and it will move.
Two deliberate scope notes. The Champion, the hidden boss unlocked by clearing the Fighting Avengers Episode, is playable but is NOT ranked here: he sits outside the Assemble tag system that every other fighter is judged on, so ranking him against the cast would compare two different games. And Phoenix Cyclops is Year 1 DLC, not a launch fighter, so he is not on the board yet.
