League of Legends Classic is Riot's permanent throwback mode inside the modern client — a "greatest hits" of League's early years (2009–2013) anchored on Season 3, with pre-rework kits (AP Master Yi, stunlock Sion, old Kassadin), old runes and Season 3 masteries, IP currency, and The Council, a community vote on future additions that opens for the first time on Patch 26.17 (Aug 26, 2026). It launched July 29, 2026, simultaneously in every region alongside LoL Patch 26.15 with a hand-picked roster of 60 champions: the original 40 from 2009 plus 20 fan favorites. Patch 26.16 (Aug 12, 2026) brought the first additions — Akali, Kennen and Shen on their 2012–2013 kits — taking the roster to 63, and reworked the economy: early-game Homeguard removed (the mid-game version stays), passive gold up roughly 215, turret hitpoints up, and eight new runes added to the Classic Store.
